Weekend at Gramma and Grampa Meyer's!

It was the middle of harvest... I'd been doing the single parent thing for almost two weeks, and one of my best college girlfriends, Katie Drey, asked if I wanted to come to Kansas City for a girls weekend.  DID I EVER!!!  The only problem was figuring out what to do with Callie.  Grams and Poppa Urso were out of town as were all of the Urso aunties... and Gramma and Grampa Meyer had to work (they're still having to work extra to play catch up from all of the tornado damage that happened out at Spirit)... but Auntie Lindsay came to the rescue.  Through a few finagling of plans... we decided to drive to Derby Friday evening to spend the night at Gramma and Grampa Meyer's house.  Lindsay watched Callie all morning and afternoon, until they got home from work... it worked out perfectly... I think everyone got a little Callie time.

I left Saturday morning (ok, let's be honest, it was closer to noon-ish :) and headed up for a girls weekend, as a single girl! It was a weird feeling, but with Phillip's blessing (and a little extra cash I was told to "have a good time with")... I met up with Katie at her house, and off to the Plaza we went to eat delicious food and shop until we couldn't walk any more. Katie and I caught up on each others lives, she was my roommate when I lived in Lawrence, along with Callie Knoll... and talked about everything else that was going on with my sorority sisters that are spread out all over the US. It was a perfect, wonderful weekend. All of the girl time I could ever want, looking at old pictures from college and reminiscing. The next morning we went to eat at First Watch and then I was off to Derby to get my babies (poor Gramma and Grampa had both Callie AND her brother Sneebie). While the time away rejuvenated me... I missed my babies terribly! I was so ready to snuggle them up when I got home!
They both had a fabulous time with Gramma and Grampa, I shouldn't be surprised! And I'm learning that I really do need to take people up on their offers to watch Callie (& usually Sneebie, too). We're so blessed by having an amazing family that loves us, (mostly Callie), as much as they do. It was exactly what I needed to come home and finish harvest as a wheat widow :).
Here are some of the photos Grampa Meyer took of Callie's sleepover...

Going for a walk at High Park to feed the geese!

Walking with Auntie Lindsay

Gramma showing Callie those BIG ducks!

Bitty isn't so sure about those ducks!

Her looks so tiny compared to the duck!

It was soooo warm that day!  Bitty needed to cool-off in Grampa's "above ground" pool!

Filling the pool up is the best part!

This photo is just TOO funny to me... I crack up every time I see it...

Stopping to smell Gramma's pretty flowers!

  1. It looks like Callie was in very capable hands! I enjoyed the photos. We can't wait to see everyone in July. Sneebie too of course.

  2. Love the photos of Callie and the wildlife. You would think Sneebie would know what she smells like by now....
