Life lately...

Oh my goodness!!!  Where to begin!?!  Life has been crazy (good!) hectic lately... and I've so much to share with all of you... so please forgive me if this post comes across as though a sleep deprived, post holiday exhausted mother of 2.5 (Sneebie definitely counts as at least .5 of a child) :).

William James Van Court
Choosing a name for our little guy was incredibly difficult... but we chose it after his Maternal Great Grandfathers Willis Meyer, an incredibly intelligent, hard-working, loving and funny man and James Urso, one of the greatest men I'll every know, loving me as though I was his own... both men, gone too soon to meet our Will, who we hope one day grows up in a way that will be honoring to them.  There were many men in the family we wanted to honor... but we chose this as a tribute to my late grandfathers.
Perhaps I should also add, the full name of William was also influenced my crush on Prince William of Wales :) (at one point I had desperately wanted to marry him... but instead settled on Prince Phillip... Prince of the Grain Elevators) and was the only name Phillip and I could both settle on.

First and foremost... most everyone reading this post already is aware of our huge news... William James.  Our little Will arrived in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 16th, 2013 at 12:28 am.  I had started laboring at 4:15 am that Friday morning... but waited until about 10 am to break the news to everyone (including Phillip!  He was loading a train in Salina!) that it would be that day.  So after a long labor, me spiking a fever, and an unsuccessful epidural... into the world came our not-so-little Will at 8 pounds 11 ounces and 20.5 inches tall.  In the delivery room, supporting me, were Phillip, my mother, my Gremom Cornelson, Stefanie (my sister Pup)... and, by mis-hap... Alex (my baby sister Boo).  Throughout most of the labor, my wonderful doctor Kauffman was present as well as my phenomenal friend and nurse

Jeannine, that came in on her day off and worked something like a 15 hour shift.
Because of my fever and suspected uterine infection... a nurse practitioner from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was present for Will's birth, followed by a visit from our Wichita Pediatrician who admitted Will to a Special Care nursery for observation, blood tests and antibiotics (though the staff was incredibly kind, allowing me to remain by Will's side the entire time).

The most odd thing about my whole labor and delivery experience is that it was nearly identical to Callie's birth story (aside from a very well working epidural).  The infection and everything.  We've concluded that perhaps that's simply how my body labors and delivers a baby.

Also different this time was a rare antibody found in my blood... that could make future pregnancies quite complicated, including having to routinely visit a Pregnancy Specialist doctor in Wichita weekly starting in my second trimester.  Because of this... Phillip and I have wondered if Will will be our last baby/pregnancy.  While numerous physicians have told me that it would be ok to get pregnant again (though my mother says I simply should NOT)... there's certainly a part of me that is wondering if this is God's way of telling me that our family is complete.  It's something I've really been struggling with since Will's birth (I'm blessed to have no post-partum depression... but this has certainly given me some blues).  So in attempts to ward off my sad thoughts... I have been trying to soak up every moment I can with, what may be, my last newborn baby.  Will and I often stay up until midnight... after everyone else has gone to sleep... just so I can lay on the couch, smell that sweet baby smell on his head, and feel his tiny breath on my chest as he just snuggles with me.

So any extra prayers you may have... please lift them up so that I may find peace in knowing God's plan for my family.  In the meantime... I will just enjoy what He has already blessed me with.

Now that's enough of that story... so I'll share photos!

I was actually driven to the hospital, contracting, by my mother... and Phillip met us at the hospital shortly after we arrived... he was exactly who I wanted to see... and who I needed to have hold my hand when I was hurting...

Even if he didn't know quite what to do when I was hurting...

My fabulous nurse applying the monitors to my giant belly...

My labor pain consisted mostly of back labor... so here is Phillip... holding the monitors on my belly... while holding a heating pad on my back... (mind you... the heating pad was my mothers from 1978 -- give or take a year or two-- we were worried it would catch the hospital on fire!)... also, Will was delivered in the same hospital room as Callie was!  LDR 19

Of course having my sisters in the room for delivery helped keep me looking my best... who wants a shiny face with all of those photos that will be taken right when he's born?!

Unfortunately... immediately after his birth... I got quite sick... so Daddy actually got to hold the little man before mommy even did!

My amazing team that made it all possible... I'm so grateful to have had these two!  They are both incredibly brilliant and talented individuals!

And here is the Tank of a boy himself... William James... I was shocked how big he was when he was born!  Weighing nearly an entire pound more than his big sister did at birth!

and my little man... in finally in my arms for the first time...

Little Will talking to Grammie and Grandfather Van Court for the first time...

We did not have Callie come up to meet Will until later that day... I see no reason in keeping a toddler up into the wee hours of the morning!  She will never know the difference! (She was mostly unimpressed anyways...)

Life has been a total whirlwind since then... but we're trying to love every minute...

I do apologize for the tardiness of thank you notes... I'm slowly working on them... but finding free time is proving to be difficult in between feeding, sleeping, cleaning and, of course, playing.

Love, kisses and licks from all of us Van Courts!

Little Man Van Court's Baby Pool!!!

Soooo... some of you may recall doing this last time with Callie... and I believe Gramps Urso was the winner... right down to the Date and just minutes off of the time.  I thought it might be fun to do again!  So put in your guesses and we will, of course, determine who the winner is within the next 14 days!!!  Best of luck to everyone!

Little Man's Diaper Sprinkle

My absolutely fabulous girlfriends are outdoing themselves again and throwing the little man and I a Diaper "Sprinkle".  A "Sprinkle" is supposed to be a "less extravagant" version of a baby shower... and I'm so blessed that these girls are throwing one for us!  Truly we already have most everything we need to accommodate another little one... with the exception that he will be in more pink than most little boys (a special thank you to Erin, Mandi, my Aunt Denise and Grandmother Barbara... because of them he will be in significantly LESS pink than he otherwise would be!)... but the idea of getting a few extra boxes of diapers (truly, between the price of them and gas... it's amazing that anyone can stay afloat of their finances!) is simply AMAZING!

So friends and family... mark your calendars, because if, for no other reason, it will be fun to get together, see my enormous belly... and ask the big sister if she's REALLY ready for this!

The "sprinkle" will be held at my dear friend Jeannine's house (the same location as Miss Callie's FABULOUS shower) on the East side of Wichita.  I hope to see everyone there!

Omaha Trip 2013

Last week, instead of Daddy Phillip just going to Omaha for meetings alone... Callie, myself and my mother decided to take a road trip with him!  It had been over a year since she had gotten to see her Great Grammie and Grandfather Faith and with them being just 3 1/2 hours away... we decided why not make the trip!  My mother came as a "nanny" to watch Callie during a business dinner that I attended with Phillip on Tuesday night... it was such a fun trip and I'm so glad we were able to go!

Here's a few photos from our trip!

We arrived to Omaha on Monday night... and on Tuesday, after some room service breakfast :), we headed out to the Children's Museum.  It was SOO fun!

Mommy even played with Bitty... for a little bit!

This whole farm section was hilarious!!!  Callie could pick corn!  Just like Daddy! (Well... sort of... but Phillip did get his first official load of corn yesterday... so that means Fall Harvest has hit Salina!)

And her helped check Gee out in the grocery store...

And then her made Gee sit down in the little house while she cooked Gee dinner with all of her yummy groceries...

And her even talked Gee into a Carousel ride!

And the fact that you could milk the rubber utters on the cow left me cracking up... Callie just kept saying "it no work Mommy!"

Then... while the boys attended more meetings on Wednesday... the girls got to go out on a lunch date!  Callie was very happy to see Great Grammie Mona, who is Grammie Woo's Mommy!

The girls out to lunch!  (Gee took the photo, of course)... and after we ate the delicious meal... Great Grammie Mona got to feel her newest Great Grandbaby kick!  Little Man Van Court was so happy to have such a yummy lunch that he was wiggling all around!

And a trip to Omaha isn't complete without sweet kisses from Great Grammie...

The Group!  Callie being a bug... she was so excited to see Daddy!

Great Grammie spoiled both of her Great Van Court babies... giving the Little Man the softest, most handsome blue blanket that will be perfect for bringing him home from the hospital in chilly November... she was right, after all... Callie's old pink blankets simply won't do for the little man!

And Bitty got a new book!  Her loves her book!  And Mommy loves it because it reminds her of beautiful Naples, Florida... it's absolutely my paradise and Grammie gave it to Callie to remind her of that paradise that we've all gotten to share.

We had a fabulous time in Omaha... and of course, a special thanks to Gee for sharing a hotel room with Bitty and keeping me company while Phillip had a full couple of days of meetings... Mother's only request is to go somewhere a little more exciting for her next "nanny" job :).

Love, Licks, Kisses & Kicks from all of us!

A Duck Emergency

So as anyone that has ever previously read this blog before knows... Duck or Duck Duck Goose is a pretty important character in our lives.  We can't leave the house without him, don't you dare think about putting Callie to bed without him nestled in her tiny hands, and if her little world falls apart he is the one she wants to make things better.  So, when Duck's nipple (I know, it seems so strange, just continue reading and it will make sense... I promise!) broke... Callie was very distraught.  I could tell it was going to happen, the silicone pacifier nipple attached to Duck's beak was showing quite a bit of wear, not because Callie sucks on it... but because she rubs it in between her fingers as a sort of comfort thing for herself.  But when the nipple finally gave out... poor Callie just cried and pouted over how Duck was "broke".  Of course, this character that I chose for her before she was born (not having any idea as to whether or not she would actually take to it!) has been long since discontinued and purchasing another on the Internet, or anywhere for that matter, is... impossible (trust me... I've spent many nap times searching the web for another one!).
Luckily... when Duck finally gave out... we were with Gee (my mother).  The ever talented, creative, home-EC professional woman she is took on the challenge of repairing Duck.  I had promised Callie that Gee would fix Duck and Gee wasted no time disassembling his beak and replacing the nipple.  Perhaps she wouldn't admit it to just anyone... but she brought him to Callie just before bed one night, with beads of sweat on her brow... saying that it may have been one of the most nerve wracking procedures she'd done to date.  She was worried about not being able to reassemble him to Callie's liking... but, as amazing as Gee is, she came though.  Callie took one look at Duck Duck Goose, hugged him, and said "Duck all better now!"  Whew!  What a blessing my mother is!  And now... we are all living just happily ever after with Duck.

The broken removed nipple

As Callie complained "It not wooork mama!!"

What a fabulous job Gee did!  Thanks Gee!

Oh, Hello 3rd Trimester!

We've got 10 weeks to go until we meet our little man... and still SOOO much to do!  We haven't chosen a name yet (shocking, I realize this!) and haven't yet started a nursery!  I suppose two married procrastinators could be the easiest explanation for why nothing is done.  Oh well... there's still time :) (and if there isn't, then that's what family is for, right?)

So I feel enormous this time... (I'm certain most pregnant women do) and after a routine 28 week Ultrasound... I now know why... Phillip's son is HUGE!  His head alone measured in the 96% (keep in mind that an average sized head would be 50%)... so while I'm grateful he is a healthy growing boy... I'm also quite happy that he is not my first baby!  Phillip weighed in at 7 lbs 11 oz 3 weeks early... so who knows what we're in for with this big guy!

Along with our routine Ultrasound, we had a 4D Ultrasound done... which was simply AMAZING!  We got to see exactly what our little man looks like!  And it's incredible how much the technology has changed in just 2 1/2 years (since Callie's 3D ultrasound).  Some of you on the mass texting list received the images by phone... but I'll post a couple here too!

In other good news, I am much healthier with this pregnancy, too.  After having lab work done, my blood sugar results came back within normal range and I'm not anemic (as I was with Callie) and I'm gaining weight appropriately (as evidenced by my huge tummy and the frequent comments and looks of awe from strangers when I tell them I still have 2 months to go).  Callie will just forever be our Bitty Baby... and now we're about to experience a Tank of a child.

28 weeks Pregnant
Left Image: with Callie      Right Image: Current Pregnancy

Little Man Van Court... 28 weeks Gestation... snoozing with his eyes closed... the uneven surface of his face is just a result of the amniotic fluid around him.

After several responses... he has the nose and lips of his big sister Callie (my mother and Auntie Stef) and the chin of his father (Grammie Lou).

One of our first baby gifts... from the Graber's!!!  Mandi got a new toy (an embroidery machine) and made us the ADORABLE weenie dog burp cloth and bib... and also made us receiving blankets with matching burp clothes!  In none other than Batman (who Callie thinks is totally awesome) and Superman material (Phillip's TRUE favorite super hero).  Thank you Mandi... because of you, and Auntie Erin... perhaps this little man won't be clothed in all pink, after all!

And a very special thank you to Auntie Erin for sharing all of Mav's baby clothes with us!!!  Because of her... we literally need nothing to clothe a boy!  Please excuse the garbage bags... she had them so neatly organized into plastic tubs... but in order to get it all back to Salina, along with everything we had already taken to Cheyenne it was the only way to make it all fit in the back of the trusty ol Ravy!

And yes everyone... it's officially... Bitty has her "Big Girl Bed"... if you haven't already gotten to hear all about it!  She's quite proud and LOVES that it's Green (her very favorite color!).  Daddy even recently finished the trundle bed portion... so now it's all ready for her first sleepover with Auntie Pup in a couple of weeks!

(My baby looks so tiny in her Big bed!)

And a sad day for us... the last Post/Van Court playdate.  Some of you may know that Seth Post (one of Phillip's groomsmen) had been running the Minneapolis, Kansas Scoular elevator... but had an opportunity that he couldn't pass up come along, so now he'll be running a brand new "shuttle loading" elevator out of Falls City, Nebraska.  The two little babies got along so well and had so much fun together... we're hoping to be able to meet up with them a couple of times throughout this fall when they're in Manhattan cheering on the Wildcat's for football games.  One of our favorite things to do is to wear all KU apparel when playing... and getting Baby Alex to sport it too :)

Neither of us probably would've stayed around Salina forever... it would have been inevitable that one of us would have had to move... I just wish we could have had longer together!  I'll miss having the babies play together!

And I'll share just a couple more photos today... it's rare that we get a photo with all 3 of us in it... but we got one!  It was on our Chicago trip to visit the McCann's... we spent a Saturday afternoon at a Children's Museum where I'm not sure if Daddy or Callie had more fun!

Love, Kisses, Licks and (much stronger!) baby Kicks!

Sweet Summertime

This post just has a few photos collected from this summer... PLUS if you click on this youtube link listed below, you will be directed to a video montage created by Chris Ovrebo (Phillip's Brother-in-law) of Phillip and Chris racing a Camaro on a really awesome race track in Denver.

Our local Zoo, The Rolling Hills Wildlife Zoo, (which is small... but truly a perfect size for this mama!) has a Toddler Tuesday class at 10:00 am on the first Tuesday of every month.  This summer Tina and I have taken the girls a couple of times... because they have so much fun!  Here they are feeding the goats... Alex just LOVES the animals, while poor Bitty just isn't so sure.  So uncertain, in fact, that she reminds us daily of how much she "on't nik HEEIM" (I DON'T LIKE HIM!) in regards to the sheep they got to feed.

I love the little playhouse (on the entirely opposite side of the zoo from the entrance) and so do the girls... here they're enjoying a picnic together!

Bitty practicing her big sistering skills with little Carter Scott at Gee's house.  She actually didn't mind him and enjoyed buckling him into everything!  If he cried (he's a REALLY good baby... I could only hope for Baby Boy Van Court to be as good of a baby as Carter) she would tell me that he needed his "mama".

We got to go to Rock River Rapids, the water park in Derby... Bitty loved it... and so did Mommy, because she had two aunties to play with!

Bitty loved Auntie Boo's Birthday party theme!!  It was Minnie Mouse!

And some of you may have received photos via your phones of Callie's Nail Salon... she LOVED getting to paint her toes AND Daddy's!

Daddy was such a good sport... clearly not too distracted from looking at cars on the iPad.

The finished product!  What beautiful toes!

Callie was so excited to see two "rain-bones!"
(And please excuse the panty photos... this was in the heat of potty training and keeping her in just those was easiest for her!)

Sorry for the super random collection of photos... but thought you all might like to see what we've been up to!  And YES... Bitty is potty-trained (with the exception of night time)!  It seemed too easy to be true... but she is!  Such a blessing!

Love, licks, kisses and kicks from all of us Van Court's to you!

Frontier Days 2013

We just arrived home at 1:30 am on Monday morning from our annual post-harvest family trip to Cheyenne, Wyoming... and no matter how long we stay... it never seems long enough, at least for me :).  I've learned that we can never officially set the dates for the trip pre-harvest, Phillip simply can't even begin to grasp the concept of leaving town at that time (his ambition, work ethic and drive is truly bitter-sweet!)... so his original plans were to leave Wednesday evening after work, and to drive home Sunday afternoon.  Luckily, with the help of Steve (his father), some complicated tasks at work, an unruly farmer, and pure exhaustion from this summer... we convinced him to leave on Tuesday... buying us just one more day in the beautiful "big sky country" as Emily recently referred to it.
Our first two days were spent relaxing at Phillip's childhood home, which, far away from any grain elevators and the stresses of everyday life... he is actually able to unwind.  Watching him transition from the high strung multi-facility manager to a more relaxed, easy going son, husband and father... is probably the main (selfish) reason I push so hard for this vacation every year.  Mind you, the perks of having Steve and Louise to love and spoil us the entire time we're there is certainly the other factor that drives the need for this vacation!
It's been convenient for us to go every year around the last week of July, summer wheat harvest is fully wrapped up, it's Frontier Days in Cheyenne AND it's our favorite little man's birthday, Mavy!   So needless to say... our vacation was wonderful... I tried to fight for just one more day, but work beckoned my husband home... and I was grateful for the time we had.  I've truly married into a fabulous family and I know I'm so very blessed.

ANYwho... I'll stop rambling and will post the photos of our amazing trip!  These are compiled from my camera, Steve's camera (those are obviously the best images!), and Louise's camera.  So enjoy!

By request, the hammock was out in the 75 degree perfectly landscaped back yard under a large shade tree... after Phillip had spent some time enjoying (and being rocked by Callie in it)... it was Grandfather's turn for a rest... mind you, resting alone simply wasn't an option here.
(notice Grandfather is nicely covered up with one of Callie's blankey's... she didn't want him getting too cold :)

Grandfather is usually the one behind the camera...  so having the opportunity to be on the other side of the lens is sort of something new ;)  Grandfather with his silly little girl...

Thursday morning we got up and went to the Frontier Days parade!  It was slightly cool-ish... and Callie had never seen so many horses in her life!  She kept saying "yook!  Anudder Hors!"

Callie might have a slight obsession with Maverick... she was SO excited to see him she was almost sheepish when he arrived on Friday to play.  She loved every moment she got to spend with him!

On our way to the Carnival, on Friday the boys spent the afternoon racing a Camaro at a race track in Denver, so the girls took the babies to the Frontier Days Carnival!

Unfortunately, as I should have guessed, pregnant women are not allowed on rides (even silly kid rides) so Grammie Lou had to ride instead!

Grammie and her cotton-candy eating babies!

Mommy did suck her tummy in to get on this ride with Callie (which she insisted Mommy ride in back!)  Poor little brother! :)

The funniest part of this ride was how serious she was about the whole driving part!!  She never once took her hand off the wheel!  Very intent, just like her father!

Looking at the jewelry booths at the end of our carnival experience, the babies were exhausted... but never once had a meltdown!

 Reading a story before bed...

The sweet Sweet cousins!  Their spontaneous hugs were the BEST!

And hanging out with Uncle Phil isn't so bad either!

Mommies and little Calpal... I loved the Cars themed décor!

Callie obviously being super helpful while Mavy opens his birthday gifts!

I love this photo taken by Grandfather... I think my baby is beautiful (sure, she could've used a haircut prior to the trip... but her features are simply gorgeous to me... God knew what He was doing when he made my precious baby girl).

And certainly the birthday party favorite...  Callie driving Mav around in the Corvette!  Poor Mav's legs are just a bit shorter than Callie's, so she was able to reach the pedal, while he couldn't!  She LOVED it!  (This might be the last time Mav EVER lets a girl drive him around!)

And my favorite photo from the trip... Grandfather captures the most amazing memories... I'm fairly certain this will be framed and placed somewhere in our living room :)

We had so much fun... and as I said, my only complaint was not having more time to spend in Cheyenne.

Thanks for reading everyone!  Choosing from the 300+ photos to post on here was nearly impossible... Steve hasn't even shared the race track photos yet!

Love, Kisses, Licks and baby kicks!
