My Resolution... to have a baby :)

As far as New Years Resolutions go, I didn't think that losing weight would be appropriate (not until after April, of course :), and I just didn't have any burning desire to make any major life changes, so I've decided, that my Resolution will be... to have a baby this year!  FINALLY a resolution I will not disappoint myself with... or anyone else for that matter.  I believe that Phillip's resolution is similar... although it may also include conquering the Play Station Gran Tourismo 5 game, as well (thanks for that gift, Chris and Erin :).

So my excuse this time, in response to the delay in my blog posting, is because we have officially moved the office!  It now resides in Phillip's "man-cave" of a room in the basement.  We have spent the last two weekends cleaning out what will become the "nursery".  Tomorrow... we start painting!  Of course by we, I mean Phillip starts painting... I supervise.

Initially we had decided to not paint the nursery... that is, until Phillip came up with the idea of painting the nursery in Victoria's Secret two-toned pink stripes.  Of course this thrilled me (c'mon, anyone who knows me... knows how perfect of a room this is).  That boy Phillip certainly knows the way to please my heart.

Upon Internet searching, we found a photo of what the nursery could look like.  The image is from the Pottery Barn Kids website... it was just really nice to see what the end result could actually be.  Here it is for you to view:

In addition to the painting of the room, the Nugget's crib and bassinet, family heirlooms from over 100 years ago, are being re-done and brought up to today's safety standards by my ever so WONDERFUL Grandparents.  Great Grampa Rollie and Great Gramma Juanita have been working their fingers to the bone, completely removing years of paint from the cast iron crib and are currently getting ready to repaint.  I'm planning on displaying the beautiful bassinet at the baby shower... I'm sooo excited to use these pieces!

Here is my beautiful Gremom (Gr. Gramma Juanita) posing with the bed (it's still in pieces at this point).

Only a couple more weeks until I feel like we are in the clear and out of the "dangerous" time for going into Pre-Term Labor (PTL).  I've decided to include a couple, of what I consider to be significant, charts.  These are from a pamphlet that the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) physicians discuss and hand out to patients that may be at risk for going into PTL.  This may just kind of give you an idea of what is going through my mind as these, oh so crucial, weeks eek by.  I mostly brought this home for Phillip, because the best way to communicate with him is via numbers (my guess is that Grampa Van Court is quite similar).

In other news, I am extremely proud to also announce that we were able to get the Pediatrician's of our choice!  With a little persuasion for both offices (more for the Salina doctor) I was able to convince them that we would be very good patients!  So Dr. Larry Hund will officially be the nugget's very first doctor followed then by Dr. Alisa Bridge in Salina.

On January 5th I had a prenatal appointment with Dr. Kauffman, and for the first time... I finally gained a pound!  So I am now at negative 12 pounds, as far as weight gain goes for the pregnancy.  But the little nugget looks healthy and is measuring appropriately, so he's just happy to see the scale going up.  My next appointment will be on January 31st... this will be the blood sugar testing appointment.  I will have to drink an extremely sugary drink and then have my blood drawn an hour afterwards to test for pregnancy induced diabetes.  We will keep you posted on the results of that test.

We had dinner with the Graber's (our most favorite people ever here in Salina), and Dr. Chris Graber reminded me that in a couple of weeks it will be time to do the 3D Ultrasound!  He said the Nugget is too skinny now to do the ultrasound, but she should put on enough weight and fat in the next couple of weeks to look very similar to how she will at birth!  We can't wait to see her!  Of course we will post photos just as soon as we get them!

The little one is just wiggling all around these days and getting SOOO strong.  The last night I worked, my friend Crystal did an ultrasound and we found out that the little nugget was sitting in straight Breech position.  There are three primary positions for fetus' to lay in when in-utero.  Vertex (head-down) is the best and only safe position for a vaginal delivery.  Transverse (perpendicular to my body), if I went in to labor would result in a cesarean section delivery.  And finally Breech (buttocks down), which would also result in a cesarean section.  The Nugget should be very active and between now and delivery, if she listens to her mommy, will hopefully rotate to the Vertex position.  They can be any given position on any given day... hopefully she has not assumed her favorite.

During the ultrasound we also got to see her thick healthy umbilical cord (it looks like mickey mouse!) and watch her practice sucking and yawning... her sweet little mouth was sooo cute!  I will try to take photos of her within the next week and post them... it's amazing how much she has grown!

I'm certain that this has been long enough for everyone... but now that Phillip has the computer and office all back up and running I will attempt to update again soon!

In the meantime here is a shout out picture to all of the Boston Urso's... we were rooting for the Patriots here in Salina... we're just sad about the upset!

Love, Licks and Kisses!

  1. Aw, you and Sneebs look so cute! :) You and me are like opposite preggos - I looked about 40 weeks when I was only 20! You're little baby girl is giving you the cutest baby bump, and you look radiant. Lots of love from all of us!

  2. Hi Kristin,
Is the date for the shower pretty firm? The reason I'm asking is that Erin and I are thinking about flying to Wichita on Friday April 1 st and then home on Sunday the 3rd, but don't want to lock in tickets if the day could change, but prices are pretty good right now. By then we should really be able to get a tummy profile of you two together! I can't wait.
    Love,
    Grammie Lou

  3. Janell! You are too kind! And for what it's worth... I must be nearly a foot taller than you, so the Nugget just has more room in there... Phillip keeps telling me how disappointed he is with how little I am!

Grammie Lou... can't wait to see you!
